System Nursing Councils
UPMC and the UPMC Center for Nursing Excellence support shared governance through a formalized council structure. Representatives from each hospital and nursing areas across the system meet on a regular basis to achieve system goals. In parallel, shared governance exists at hospital and department levels.
Engaging nurses at all levels and all areas of the care continuum, they work to innovate and drive change that supports UPMC, our communities, and the profession of nursing.
Our system councils work together on community outreach as an extra means of giving to those in need.

UPMC CARE PROVIDERS LOBBYING FOR CHANGE
Professional nurses are the cornerstone for health care delivery, especially in hospital settings.
Nurses make a difference for patients throughout Pennsylvania as advocates and clinical experts. Nurses prevent harm and save lives. To meet patient needs, nurse staffing levels are influenced by a variety of factors that, in varying combinations, could influence patient care outcomes.
A group of UPMC nurses, led by our Nurse Advocacy Council and accompanied by members of UPMC Government Relations, traveled to Harrisburg to meet with state representatives to discuss safe staffing levels for our patients.
